Vulcana

The Vulcana projet is above all things about shared values and about a commune ambition : raising awareness on art and culture around topics such as intersectionnal feminism, sexual and mental health, non-binarity, masculinities, decolonialism and more... For now, Vulcana is working from shared offices in Brussels but our goal is to have our own place ! Thanks to a future crowdfunding and to our atists residencies, we hope to be able to finance our project in 2022 !

Who’s involved in it?

As in today, we are 10 very motivated people, all part of the artistic and/or activist scene from Belgium and France. Our team is exclusively composed by women and non-binary people (as in cis-women and/or queer people).

What’s your origin story and your motivation?

The Vulcana adventure started in March 2021. The first person who though about this project was Laurent Isnard but all of us are bound by the same burning passion : promote queer and inclusive art in Brussels !

Do you want to share a special memory with us?

Our best memory so far would be the Queer Market that we organized on December 2021. There were 17 great queer artists present (drawings, tattoos, plastic, textil, jewelry, and more), some performances (dancing, singing, dragqueening, boxing) and a big raffle at the end. Appromaximetly 600 people came to our event this day, between 2pm and 8pm. It was a real success and a very joyful day !

What are some of your favorite spots in Brussels?

Our favorite spots in Brussels are the ones who share the same values of we do. So, there is Naast Monique in Anderlecht, The Crazy Circle bar in Ixelles, more recently the Agenda bar downtown. We also like to go to (and to collaborate with) the Allee du Kaai along the canal and to the Vallée in Molenbeek.

Where can we find you virtually and/or physically?
