Match
Match is an organization that focuses on all sorts of womxn and non-binary people who are somewhere on the LGBTQIA+ spectrum. We always welcome friends/allies.
What we do:
• EMPOWERMENT: we help people become the best version of themselves
• Build A PLATFORM for role models
• Create MEETING PLACES where people can connect, find love, friendship, party, inspiration…
• Encourage to NETWORK
Because we want to get more different types of people* at the decision table in every sort of industry/domain in life. (business, arts, science, tech, sports, recreation, politics, research, socio non-profit...)
*More women, NBs, LGBTQI+ people, POCs, PWDs,..
Who’s involved in it?
Several womxn & nb people that are somewhere on the LGBTQ+ spectrum. The personal & professional background of our members and guests at events is quite diverse.
We usually speak in English, but you might hear people speak Dutch, French, Turkish, Arabic, Polish, Afrikaans, Filipino, Spanish...
For the moment we have more than 20 members. Some of the members went back to their home country/another country/have other priorities but we stay connected.
+/-10 active volunteers for the moment and we keep on growing. Britt J. Mosselmans is the founder of Match.
What’s your origin story and your motivation?
Britt first started the Match because there was a shortage of meeting places in Brussels for women and non-binary people. She felt it’s our responsibility to take action so that Brussels also becomes a prime destination for women & nb's in the LGBTQIA+ community. Furthermore she wanted to create a platform to respond to the calls from the community itself and wanted Match to become a place of empowerment, networking and support.
At Match, we believe that diverse and inclusive teams will create more equality and a less heteronormative society. (Heteronormativity is an important aspect for homo- & transphobia and also very much for gender inequality) We can only realize this if we support each other more and amplify each other's voices.
What are some of your favorite spots in Brussels?
Match favo places? Anywhere in Brussels. We try to stay dynamic through changing the locations of our events + the type of our events.
