Mothers and Daughters, a lesbian* & trans* bar*

Mothers & Daughters is an ephemeral lesbian* & trans* bar*, open in the months May and June of each Spring. Due to Covid 19 regulations, the project morphed in 2020 to other activities, such as beer brewing, t-shirt making and a queer boat cruise. All activities focus on prioritizing BIPOC and trans people, in solidarity with the Black Lives Matter movement.

Who’s involved in it?

Quite a diverse group of people – at the moment Alice Versieux, Ben Pigeard-Benazera, Byrthe Lemmens, Claire Gilder, Jessica Gysel, Joelle Sambi Nzeba, Katja Mater, Marnie Slater, Mia Melvær, Robin Brettar, Nyiragasigwa Hens, Misha Verdonck

When did you start?

In 2017. The lack of a great lesbian and / or trans bar in Brussels made us decide to open one. Even if at this point, we’re still ephemeral, we keep dreaming of having a full one bar and we’re also very happy to see that more queer bars and spaces have been opening over the past years.

What are some of your favorite spots in Brussels?

I'd need to ask the team, but think Naast Monique, RBH, …

Where can we find you virtually and/or physically?

Mostly online, as it's a temporary and also nomadic project.
