Shabbes 24/7

Shabbes 24/7 is a queer, Jewish, Belgian collective. We bring together people who share our identities: queer, feminist, in some way connected to Belgium, and proud to be diaspora Jews. Since the group was founded we've hosted community events like collective Shabbat meals, rituals, and workshops, we've joined demonstrations, have made a zine and much more.

Who’s involved in it?

People who define as queer (anywhere on the LGBTQIA+ spectrum) and who are Jewish. Our core group is about 10 people. Most of our events are for queer Jews only - but some are open to others (i.e. some events are open to all queers or Jews and sometimes we host open workshops). This will always be mentioned in the event description. We also host joint events with other groups and build solidarity with other racialised communities.

What’s your origin story and your motivation?

Shabbes 24/7 started with a collective meal in the park and has continued ever since. As queer Jews we needed a space to connect with each other, to have a space to reflect on our identities and experiences, and to have a space to document those. We also want to visibilise the fact that we are here: queer feminist Jews in Belgium exist.

Where can we find you virtually and/or physically?
